ABOUT EYE EXAMS
What To Expect
A general eye exam usually takes about 20 minutes. Depending upon the optometrist’s judgment and detection, the examinations may stretch to about an hour, which may include dilation and provide a comprehensive result of your eye health.
It is recommended to get an eye exam every two years for a healthy person. If you have vision problems, the optometrist may recommend more frequent tests.
Seniors and children under 19 are covered for a free eye exam once every year by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan).
Diabetic patients are covered once every year by OHIP for the eye exam.
Certain private health insurances also cover a portion of the eye examinations. It’s best to know your insurance plan for information on your coverage, which may include eyewear expenses as well.
